Automation partnership extends strong plastics sector working relationship

Injection moulding automation specialist, Hi-Tech Automation has been recognised by FANUC Robotics as its strategic partner for the plastics industry.  The award follows several years of successful installations, involving 40 robots to date, in which the two companies have worked closely together.

FANUC Robotic’s Strategic Partnership Programme acknowledges the need for specific industry knowledge and the skills offered by system integrators.  The programme aims to provide customers with cost-effective robotic solutions engineered by FANUC supported industry specialists.

Hi-Tech Automation has been established now for over ten years concentrating on helping injection moulders to stay competitive.  “Our market is growing and demand is driven by the absolute need to automate the injection moulding process as much as possible,” commented Gary Probert, Director of Hi-Tech, “Just taking a mould from the tool and placing it isn’t enough now – the complete process has to be automated if moulders are to remain competitive with off-shored moulders.

“For many years now we’ve been automating as many operations as the mould cycle time allows – both pre and post operations.  To do this we need to use robots with a least six axes and in FANUC’s case we have a wide range to choose from – each with control of up to 40 axes should we ever need it.”

The partnership programme provides Hi Tech with in depth support including training for its engineers, demonstration resources and also simulation of proposed systems using FANUC Robotics’ ROBOGUIDE software.

Ricky Thompson, Director, Hi-Tech, added, “We’ve recently invested in modelling software to allow us to work with ROBOGUIDE.  It’s important for us to be confident in our approach before we propose solutions.

“As important as FANUC’s resources are to us in the programme there are other important but less tangible benefits for us and our customers.  Our employees are exposed to products, people and support from other companies and comment that they actually prefer working with the FANUC Robotics product range – this is very important to us as we get useful feedback and motivation to seek continuous improvement.”
